A Timeless Design Returns: Meet the Artist Behind the 2026 Farmers Market Poster

Downtown Walla Walla is built on tradition, connection, and the people who continue to shape it year after year. As we prepare to welcome back the Downtown Farmers Market for the 2026 season, we’re excited to share a piece of that story, one that began several years ago.

This year’s official Farmers Market poster was originally created in 2019 by local artist Michael Morris. After reconnecting with Michael, we’re honored to bring his design forward as the visual representation of this season.

When Michael first created this piece, his goal was simple: to design something that felt timeless.

Inspired by vintage poster and magazine cover design, including classic National Park posters and The Saturday Evening Post, he wanted the artwork to feel like it could belong to any era of Walla Walla.

I really wanted this design to feel like it could stand the test of time — like it could come from any era.

Seven years later, that vision still holds true.

I’m such a different artist now than I was then. But I still feel like it holds up. Looking at this poster still brings me a smile and some pride — something an artist can’t always say about their past projects.

At its core, this piece represents more than just the Farmers Market, it reflects the role the market plays in our community.

I hope people get a sense of history and timelessness that the Farmers Market brings to downtown. A part of the history of a town we’ve grown to love.

For many, the Farmers Market is exactly that — a place where traditions are formed, relationships are built, and the community comes together week after week.

Since its founding in 1997, the Downtown Farmers Market has supported local farmers, artisans, and makers by providing a space to connect directly with the community. Last season alone, vendors collectively generated nearly $1 million in sales — a reflection of both the strength of our local economy and the support of this community.

For some, the market has even been a starting point. Businesses like Graze and Grandma’s Kitchen first began as vendors before growing into full-time storefronts downtown.

For Michael, the Farmers Market was also a place to get introduced into the community.

As a transplant from Michigan back in 2013, the Farmers Market was a fantastic way for a young family with no previous connection to Walla Walla to feel connected. A chance to meet new people, experience the region, and get the kids out of the house.

That sense of connection is something we hear often and something the market continues to foster today.
